30 Days to Hands On Play: Build a Fort

Day 2 of the 30 Days to Hands on Play challenged us to build a fort.  I asked my son what type of fort he wanted to build and he said, "a Buzz Lightyear fort on my bed".  Michael and his sister often drape blankets over the bunk bed for tents, forts, and hideaways.  He's been doing this  when he has friends over as well, so I wasn't surprised he wanted to do it with me too.  Simplest fort I ever built! But it was the fun IN the fort that really matters....

Of course we had to have a flashlight...
so I showed Michael how to make shadow puppets.
He loved it!  He began singing "Old McDonald" or as he calls it, "Ol' McDonald".  Then it was my turn so I sang "Little Bunny Foo Foo."  He thought it was funny to turn the light on and off while I sang.
Then Michael became really silly, and, well, here's how it went...

At dinner time, all Michael could think of was getting back to that fort.  So after getting ready for bed, we crawled in to read stories.  He really wanted me to sleep in the fort with him, but my bed is oh, so much more comfortable (plus he kicks in his sleep!)  But....that didn't stop him from sleeping in it.

It's Playtime: This is Halloween!

I'll admit it, Halloween is my favorite day of the year.  I love dressing-up, I love Candy, and I love all things spooky that go bump in the night.  This week It's Playtime features my favorite Halloween activities from the past week so read on....IF YOU DARE!

Who doesn't want to serve up these Cheesy Witchy Fingers! from Mud Pies and Marmalade at their next Halloween party?  Once I checked out the recipe I realized how easy they are to make.  I bet they would be great served with some "bloody" pizza dipping sauce!

These adorable Tissue Paper Mummies from happy hooligans double as finger puppets.  What's better is they are so simple, your little one won't have any trouble putting them together.

Make, do & friend put together this cute jack o' lantern sensory bag made with red lentils, foam shapes, and....well check out their site to find out more!

Develop some fine motor skills and sharpen creativity with these Styrofoam Monster Sculptures from The Chocolate Muffin Tree.

Don't forget to include music and rhymes into your child's playtime!  Playing with words 365 posted these 10 Fall & Halloween Songs & Fingerplays for inspiration.
